gold digging and/or mining - part of Alicia's 30th Birthday 3-Day Spectacular |
 | |
1 A good number of people that Alicia works with came out to go into the hills to visit a real gold mine. Braving 100 degree heat, we all started to get excited about striking it rich. |
 | |
2 Just a picture of Alicia and I. I hadn't shaved for a while. No wait, that's our gold digger (little does he know that Alicia's not some rich widow). |
 | |
3 Ben, Alicia, Marianne & Sandy. Hope I got that correct. All waiting for the shift from 100 degree surface temperatures to the nice 65 degree subterranean temperatures. They're really more cut out to be mole people. |
 | |
4 Alicia's already bored with my jokes. She's sleeping standing up. |
 | |
5 A weird trick of perspective. Kind of looks like Ben & Marianne are looking at Alicia's swollen/enlarged head. |
 | |
6 Self-portrait. For a man who owns 2 hard hats, including one that has a logo he designed (for a former client), here I am wearing some communal hard hat that's messing up my hair. What'll happen to my rep? |
 | |
7 The goofy looking couple, getting excited about driving underground. |
 | |
8 The peg board, a federal law, so that they know how many of us are trapped underground. |
 | |
9 There's the miner trying to pick up on the girl in the tour. Think he was asking her if she'd like to come back to his place and see his rock polisher. But I am not up on my miner pick up lines. |
 | |
10 Here we are driving 400 feet down into the earth in a little shaft. Damp. Dark. Diesely. |
 | |
10 400 feet down, they have a little safe room that they bring us into and teach us a little about the mining process and it's history. He said if there was an earthquake while we were in there, we'd hear it but wouldn't feel it. |
 | |
10 We did a little walking around in the mine. Wish we had done a little more. |
 | |
10 Back on the surface, Alicia does a little gold panning. But she just wasn't panning out, and we had to replace her. She's now washing dishes somewhere, thinking back fondly of her days as a 49er. |
 | |
10 To keep her spirits up though, here she was walking back to the cars, throwing her hands up in the air and saying "we're number one!" |
 | |
10 Her workmates all got her a special parking space for her birthday present. It's a little bit of a walk from the library though. |
 | |
10 That's the train from the opening of the Sutter Gold TV dance program of the 70s. It didn't last too long, but was quickly copied by the Solid Gold and Soul Train dance programs. |
 | |
10 Nothing to see her, just some machinery. No birthday-related content. |
 | |
10 Don't tread on me! Oh wait, that was silly. |
 | |
10 Sillier still, the tavern we all had lunch at in Sutter Creak had seat belts on the bar stools. Alicia had a little too much to drink, as you can see. |
 | |
10 The wild west version of that scene from Reservoir Dogs. |
 | |
10 I was dealing with a little bit of heat stroke, so I decided to just sit on a bench while everyone was shopping. So of course, I was taking pictures of anything I could see from my bench. |
 | |
10 Sometimes I wonder if I really know how to take pictures. Who would take a shot like this? Oh wait, me. |
 | |
10 Pigeon perch. If they don't like you, they can dump on you. |
